Lincoln was the son of a man named Kentucky Frontiersman. He did not only have to struggle for a living, but also learning. He was actually born on Febuary 12th, 1809. His birth was in a county called Hardin County, which was in Kentucky. Lincoln made many efforts to keep his knowledge while working on a farm, by splitting rails for fences, and also keeping a store at New Salem, Illinois. He was actually a captain in the Black Hawk War, and also spent eight years in the Illinois legislature. He was actively involved in the court system for many years. Lincoln was also a father to 4 children, all boys, and only one of them lived to maturity. When Abraham Lincoln was president he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization. Lincoln was also a man that loved to get his picture taken.




The Confederate States of America

The Confederate States of America, or the Confederacy, was a union of mainly Southern States that were rebelling against the election of Abraham Lincoln into the office of President. These states did not make a new country, but rather seceded from the United States in order to form a "confederacy" among themselves. The states that chose to secede were South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Lousiana, Texas, North Carolina, Arkansas, Florida, Virginia, and Tennessee. The leader of the Confederate States of America was Jefferson Davis. The Confederacy chose to have a capital in Montgomery, Alabama but later moved it closer to the United States capital but choosing Richmond, Virginia. The secession from America that resulted in the Confederate States of America was a major factor in the Civil War between the Confederacy and the Union.
